Karen Black B.Ed., BHec., CCPE is the founder and CEO of My Skin Coach, combining her expertise as a high school science teacher, a degree in Food and Nutrition Science, and a Canadian Council of Pharmaceutical designation.
For almost 15 years, I worked in dermatology. When you’re in it that long, you learn a thing or two—not just about products and protocols, but about people. Skin is personal. It tells a story. And I was always fascinated by how the right skincare—chosen wisely and used consistently—could completely transform someone’s skin… and confidence.
I’ve always been a creative person, but like many women, my life was full. As a single mom, the dream of starting something of my own sat quietly in the background. I simply didn’t have the time or energy.
But something kept calling me.
Over the years, I noticed a shift. More and more of my friends—amazing, smart, beautiful women—were going through divorces in their 40s and 50s. Suddenly, they were back on the dating scene, navigating a new chapter of life… and feeling uncertain about their appearance. Time and time again, I’d find myself in the middle of a conversation at a coffee shop, school event, or dinner party, casually coaching someone on skincare.
They didn’t want fluff. They didn’t want to waste money on trendy products or be overwhelmed by a 10-step routine. They wanted real results—and someone they could trust to guide them.
That’s when I realized: This is my thing. Helping women—especially busy moms like myself—cut through the noise and finally feel confident in their skin.
That’s why I started My Skin Coach.
To simplify skincare.
To empower women with education and honesty.
To offer curated, medical-grade solutions that work.
Because when your skin looks good, you feel better. And when you feel better, you show up differently—in work, in relationships, in life.
My mission is simple: help you feel confident, radiant, and in control… no matter what chapter you’re in.
